My Little Pony=Racism?

Now this has been bothering me for a while. I never thought it was a big deal but certain things have convinced me that this needs to be talked about.

Now a while back, some idiot on Ms. Magazine said that MLP promotes homophobia and racism. Most fans of the show would agree that this woman is an idiot and I thought she was crazy. However, recently, I've seen some things that have worried me.

In a chat, someone said they hated it when people drew the MLP cast as humans. Now it wasn't the fact they were humans that bothered them. No, it was the fact that some people tend to give the human ponies different skin tones. According to this person, it's wrong to make human ponies any other color besides white.

….

Where do I even begin?

Okay, first off these are ponies we are talking about. They are almost every color of the rainbow. Therefore, when they are drawn as humans, the artist is allowed to give them whatever skin color they see fit. At the same time, does it really matter? No, it doesn't because the color of someone's skin isn't all that important in the long run. Now with that being said, you may ask why this bothers me so much.

Because what this person said was closed minded and just down right rude. Basically, what this person is saying if you're not white, there is something wrong with you. Last time I checked, that makes you racist. This show that we're all obsessed over happens to be about making friends and therei s even an episode about accepting someone who is different.

Now that's another thing I wanted to bring up. Zecora, the only zebra in the show, is usually depicted as a black person when drawn as a human. Now I personally don't have a problem with that but another issue arises when people draw her white. There are arguments that she has to be white because she's a zebra and therefore from Africa. Well, last time I checked, there were white and black people in Africa. So again, why does this matter?

I'm bringing this up because I love this fandom a lot. I've made some great friends who I adore. However, I've noticed that this fandom is starting to slowly deteriorate. I've stated that I don't want this fandom to become like the huge part of the Sonic fandom that is filled with annoying, uneducated fanboys and yaoi fan girls who don't think before they speak. I don't want to be the butt of everyone's jokes and I don't want people to leave because other people in the fandom are being assholes.

This whole racism issue shouldn't even be apart of this fandom! Again, if the artist chooses to make Rarity Asian or Twilight African-American, why should it matter? Last time I checked, humans had evolved from being so close minded over trial details.  And again, as I have stated, this show promotes friendship, love and acceptance. Is there a reason we can't do that same? How can we call ourselves bronies if we aruge over something that really shouldn't be argued over?

So in the end, I want you fellow bronies to think about this whole issue that really shouldn't be an issue in the first place. Why spend so much time thinking over such a small thing? So what if Fluttershy is Mexican? So what if Rainbow Dash happens to have dark skin? Can't we just enjoy a wonderful show and get along?

Last but not least, I would like to bring up a quote from the supreme pony ruler herself, Laurn Faust: Color has never, ever been depicted as a race indicator for the ponies. When your characters are purple, blue, orange, yellow, black, white, red, green and pink, who's to say which is supposed to signify a white person, a black person, an Asian person?
This is something that I've been meaning to post for a while. Most likely, I'll add it to my tumblr too.

First of all, Twilight seems to be Indian, because Indian people are smart, so it should be taken as a compliment. Second, Rarity, well...she can look good with any race. Rainbow Dash may have dark skin because she spends so much time in the sun, and Fluttershy is so shy you don't know what she could be. So I say that it doesn't really matter, unless there's a bomb or something involved with it. Otherwise, no.
